The Archive

This is what I’m euphemistically / pretentiously calling the archive, which will act as a dump of all the places I appear across the internet.

ABC News

I wrote a fair amount of stuff for ABC in a pretty short time frame (including an unpublished article about beached whales, which still saddens me). This includes;

  • An article on Mark Zuckerberg’s summons to appear in front of the UK parliament (which he promptly ignored, presumably burned by the time that he did show up in front of congress)
  • An article about Martina Navratilova’s criticism of the BBC’s pay gap
  • A story about the North Koreans competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics (they did badly)
  • An article about Finland being declared the happiest country on earth (there’s interesting amounts of science involved in these kind of studies, even if articles about them are mostly written to be dismissive – which I tried to avoid)
  • A piece about the new electric black cabs you might’ve started seeing around London (even though this could be called a fluff piece, I’m actually relatively proud of it, because it came out of an idea I had rather than a thing that happened and I did a fair amount of research to get it together)
  • A story on the removal of the park bench the Skripals were poisoned on (segwaying into a general update on the diplomatic fallout at that stage)
  • A couple of pieces about things not working when they should work (ski lift and roller-coaster respectively)
  • A bonus video about a Syrian asylum seeker that I helped edit

The singles Jukebox

My latest writing adventure at thesinglesjukebox.com, where I write a paragraph on whichever songs take my fancy, along with a fantastic community of other writers. Below is a table of every review I’ve done there, which will update every time a new one goes up (the latest at the top).

Also because the mathematician in me will never die, here’s a chart of how often I’ve given each score out.

BBC

Ok, so maybe I technically didn’t write this, but I did the research about David Bowie’s audition for hair for the article and it made it in, so I’m counting it.

Also there’s the time I got a poem published on the BBC, in a wonderful butchering of Twelfth Night. Quote from the live page “this may well top the lot”

Hip Hop Soc

I founded a hip-hop society while I was at university. It was great, we had meetings where we chatted about albums and I managed to pass it off to other people and it’s still going strong. I also set up a website, with the idea being that people would write stuff about rap music. No-one was as keen as I was (possibly because writing two essays a week doesn’t make you want to do another one for fun, possibly because it came too quickly before there was a base of people), but I still think it was a good idea and hopefully one of the future heads will agree with me and try to revive it. [Update 2021: The website has been deleted. Evidently they didn’t agree]

Anyway, this is a long winded way of saying that here’s an article about Jay-Z before 4:44 (incidentally, I cut a line saying Jay should respond to Lemonade because I figured he wouldn’t, even though it would’ve resulted in his best album since 2004, and then he did and I was proved completely right and don’t have any proof).

China and India

As a lark, here’s a blog I wrote when I was 11 about my trip through China and India. I like to think I’m a better writer, but guess that’s for you to judge.

Community Channel

Sadly all the stuff I wrote for the Community Channel has been lost to the annuls of time when they relaunched as “Together TV”, but at least I’ll have memories and the broken web links.
